Employing migrant workers

Employers Helpline

0845 010 6677

The Employers Helpline assists employers in complying with section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act of 1996.

The advice given by the Helpline is generally non case specific due to the Data Protection Act, so decisions about employing particular individuals are not given, only advising what employers need to do to comply with the law.

Verification Service for Bulgarian and Romanian Nationals

From 1st January 2007 a new service will be available to employers offering to verify the entitlement to work in the UK of Romanian and Bulgarian nationals.

To access this service, employers should use the same Employer Helpline number (0845 010 6677) and the call operator will guide them through the process.

The Helpline will also be able to provide general information on the policy for employing A2 Nationals.

The service is limited to verifying the work entitlements of Romanian and Bulgarian Nationals only at this stage. However, the IND is currently looking at how to expand the verification service for employers and further details will be made available later in 2007.
